Studies on the Genus Paeonia

Abstract
Experiments were carried out to make clear the relationships between nine quantitative characters of tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa Andrews). Varieties used as the materials were 69, and those were cultivated and measured in 1976 as 4-year-old plants.
The results obtained are summarized as follows;
1. Varietal differences were observed in 9 different characters as shown in Table 1 and appendix.
2. There were high positive correlations between fresh plant weight and branch numbers per plant, stem diameter, stem length, leaf numbers per branch, bud numbers per branch, internode length, propagation ratio and scion numbers per plant, respectively, as shown Table 2.
3. It was also observed that there were high positive correlations between propagation ratio and branch numbers per plant, stem diameter, stem length, internode length and fresh plant weight, respectively.
4. Varietal differences were shown in all characters measured, but especially remarkable differences were shown in fresh plant weight and propagation ratio etc.
